Privacy Policy
Choridoo is an iOS app for planning a home’s rooms and chores, on your own (Solo) or with your household (Family). This policy explains what information Choridoo handles, where it is stored and the choices you have. “We” and “us” mean the developer of Choridoo.
In short: by default your home stays on your iPhone. Choridoo sends information to its server only when you turn on Family sync, join a family or send a bug report. There are no ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell your data. Photos never leave the device where you add them.
1. Information stored on your device
Choridoo stores the following in the app’s own storage on your iPhone:
- your household name and settings, and the names, avatars and roles of the people you add (including children’s profiles you create);
- rooms and their layout, chores, assignments, schedules, completions and activity history;
- photos you choose to attach to rooms or completed chores;
- your reminder preferences and app settings;
- a record of your verified Family subscription, so the app can check your access offline.
We cannot see this information. Your iPhone’s own backup settings (for example iCloud Backup) may include it, under Apple’s terms. A recovery file you choose to export and share is handled by the place you send it to.
2. Photos
Choridoo uses Apple’s photo picker, so it only sees the photos you select, not your whole library. Selected photos are resized and stored on that iPhone only. Photos and photo file names are never uploaded to our server and are never shared with other family members’ devices, even when Family sync is on.
3. Family sync and Sign in with Apple
If you turn on Family sharing or join a family, you sign in with Sign in with Apple. Choridoo does not request your name or email address from Apple; we receive only an anonymous Apple user identifier. We also store a token issued by Apple so we can revoke Choridoo’s access when you delete your account.
While Family sync is on, the family’s home is stored on our server so everyone in the family can see and update it:
- the household name and settings;
- people’s names, avatars, roles, whether they are a child profile, and which people use their own phone;
- rooms and their layout, chores, assignments, completions and activity history.
Everyone in the family can see this information. Invite codes are stored only as a one-way hash. If you leave a family or stop sharing, a copy of the home stays on your phone.
4. Subscriptions and payments
Choridoo Family is an auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple processes all payments; we never receive your card number, billing address or other payment details.
To unlock Family for the right home, the app and our server receive Apple’s signed transaction records for your Choridoo subscription: transaction and original transaction IDs, product, purchase and expiry dates, grace period, refund or revocation dates, and an anonymous identifier that links the subscription to your household. We use this only to provide and verify Family access, including messages Apple’s App Store server sends us when a subscription renews, expires or is refunded.
5. Bug reports
If you send a bug report from the app, it contains your description, an optional email address if you choose to give one, the app version and build, iOS version, iPhone model and a random ID for this app installation. If you leave app details on, it also says whether you use Solo or Family, how many rooms, chores and people you have, and the last sync error. Names, chore text and photos are never included. If you are signed in for Family sync, the report is linked to your account so we can investigate sync problems.
To prevent abuse, we keep a one-way hash of the network address a report came from for one day. Bug reports are used only to fix problems and are deleted within 12 months.
6. Reminders
Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone with Apple’s notification service and only with your permission. We do not send push notifications from a server. You can turn reminders off in Choridoo or in iOS Settings.
7. How we use information, and our legal bases
We use the information above only to provide the features you ask for: keeping your home on your device, syncing it with your family, verifying your subscription, answering support requests and fixing bugs. We rely on performing our agreement with you (providing the app and Family subscription) and, for bug reports and abuse prevention, our legitimate interest in keeping Choridoo working and secure. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or tracking, and we do not sell or rent it.
8. Service providers and where data is stored
Family data, subscription records and bug reports are stored with Supabase, our hosting and database provider, on servers in the United States. Apple provides Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchase and notifications. These providers process data on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments. When data is transferred out of your country, we rely on the safeguards these providers offer for international transfers.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
9. Retention and deletion
- On your device: data stays until you remove it. Deleting the app removes household files, photos, recovery copies and everything else stored by Choridoo on that iPhone.
- Your account: Settings → Privacy → Delete Choridoo account deletes your account and your membership in any family from our server and revokes Choridoo’s Sign in with Apple access. If you host a family, that family’s shared home is deleted from the server too; each phone keeps its own copy.
- Subscription records are kept while the household exists so renewals, refunds and restores work correctly, and are removed with the household. A log of Apple’s subscription records (transaction IDs, dates and product, with no names or household content) is kept for accounting and to prevent fraud.
- Bug reports are deleted within 12 months.
Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Cancel it in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or California law), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. You can do most of this directly in the app. For anything else, email us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
11. Children
Choridoo is meant to be set up and managed by adults. A parent or guardian can add children’s profiles to their household, and a child may use Choridoo on their own phone as part of a family the parent hosts. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children for any other purpose, and we never use it for advertising. A parent who believes we hold information about their child that they did not authorize can contact us to have it deleted.
12. Security
Data sent to our server is encrypted in transit. Access to a family’s data is limited by server-side rules to members of that family. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we collect.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Choridoo changes. The new version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app.
